AR 3D Sketching Guide System — SEGAR
Dalhousie University · 2024–2025 · First author, present at the undergraduate research exhibition & poster submitted to ACM SUI (Accepted)

This project explores improving accuracy and usability in 3D sketching within AR environments. Traditional mid-air sketching is prone to spatial drift and inconsistent strokes. To address this, we designed SEGAR, a pen-based AR sketching system that integrates visual guides and haptic feedback, enabling users to extend physical surfaces into mid-air seamlessly.

My contributions:
  • System Design & Implementation: Co-developed SEGAR in Unity3D + C#, using Quest 3 passthrough AR and Logitech MX Ink stylus with vibrotactile feedback.
  • Interaction Design: Created proximity-based 3D grids and boundary-triggered virtual planes, improving stroke accuracy and spatial continuity.

Key result:
  • Pilot Study: Designed and conducted a pilot user study (N=4), collecting SUS usability scores (83/100) and qualitative feedback.
  • Findings demonstrate SEGAR significantly improves sketch stability and drawing flow.
